Intelligent lightweight construction enables a significant improvement both in terms of the energy efficiency and the sustainability of means of transport. Lower weights result in reduced drive resistance values, for instance acceleration resistance, line resistance or roll resistance in rail vehicles, and consequently in a lower energy requirement.

The reduced use of materials when using lightweight construction also results in significantly improved resource efficiency. As such, lightweight construction represents a key technology for the energy and resource-efficient mobility of the future.
