Intelligent lightweight construction allows both energy efficiency and sustainability of means of transport to be significantly improved. Lower masses lead to reduced driving resistances such as acceleration resistance, line resistance or rolling resistance in rail vehicles and thus to lower energy requirements.

The reduced use of materials through lightweight construction also results in significantly improved resource efficiency. Lightweight construction is thus a key technology for the energy- and resource-efficient mobility of the future.
